- Four reactors at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station are coming off-line for refurbishment at an estimated cost of $26.8 billion.
- The refurbishment project is expected to take units out of service for about a decade and extend the plant's life by up to 38 years.
- The work includes replacing 1,520 fuel channels, 48 boilers and building a 1.5-kilometre deep-water intake.
- Environmental Defence expressed concern that taking reactors offline will increase reliance on natural gas and greenhouse gas emissions.
